About USIP

Sport to serve and protect.

Founded in Paris on 23 May 1990, the International Police Sports Union unites police sports federations from 80 countries and stages the World Police Championships and the USIP World Police Games.

USIP is an international police sports organization founded in 1990 in Paris and recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1995, with the mission of uniting police institutions worldwide through sport. Through its World Police Games, Championships, General Assemblies, technical seminars, and development projects, USIP promotes cooperation, discipline, friendship, and institutional wellbeing among law enforcement communities.

Under its current UAE Presidency, USIP is entering a new stage of international growth, with Abu Dhabi serving as a key hub for a broader vision: organizing high-standard international events that go beyond sport and contribute to police readiness, excellency, and institutional development.

Cooperation with other sport organizations

The USIP cooperate with several police sport organizations like the USPE (Europe), the APSF (Arab Police Sport Federation) and the UDEPP (Pan-American Police Sport Union). Sport calendars from all these organizations are in balance with each of their activities. This brings the athletes a lot of possibilities to join sport on several sport grounds. Thereby the USIP has an MOU with other worldwide sport organizations like the IJF (Judo), WKF (World Karate Federation), ANOC (Association of National Olympic Committees) etc.

Technical Seminars

USIP delivers specialized technical seminars in cooperation with international partners, sports federations, and police institutions. These seminars are designed to build capacity, train instructors, share best practices, and strengthen professional knowledge among member countries. They also contribute to police readiness, institutional excellence, and the development of common standards across the international police sports community.

USIP uses sports as a strategic platform for institutional development, community engagement, wellbeing, youth inclusion, and international cooperation. Through development projects, the organization seeks to expand the positive impact of police sports beyond competition, promoting leadership, education, social connection, and stronger relationships between police institutions and the communities they serve.

Our history

From Paris 1990 to the World Police Games

Three decades of police sport — a union founded by 43 countries that now spans four continental regions.

  1. 1990

    Founded in Paris

The International Police Sports Union was founded in Paris on 23 May 1990, on the initiative of police sports activists from Spain and France. Forty-three countries signed as founding members, from Argentina and China to Kuwait, Morocco and the United Kingdom.

  2. 1990s–2000s

    World Police Championships

The Union built an annual calendar of World Police Championships — cross-country, marathon, triathlon, judo, cycling, shooting, futsal and related police sports — with the Congress convening as the highest authority and every member nation holding an equal vote.

  3. 2015

    The first World Police Games

Bogotá staged the inaugural USIP World Police Games from 26 September to 3 October 2015. More than 500 athletes from 30 countries competed in shooting, swimming, athletics, taekwondo and cycling, and the National Police of Colombia topped the first edition.

  4. 2017–2019

    Abu Dhabi and Milan

The Games grew fast: Abu Dhabi 2017 drew more than 800 police athletes from 51 nations across four disciplines, and Milan-Lombardia 2019 staged seven disciplines across seven venues in the region, from practical shooting to the 10K.

  5. 2020–2023

    Through the pandemic

The 16th Congress and the planned fourth Games were postponed by the pandemic. USIP returned to competition in November 2023 with the 1st World Police Futsal World Cup in Kuwait, played under FIFA and USIP regulations.

  6. 2024–present

    The road to Santo Domingo

In February 2024 General Gonzalo Londoño was appointed Secretary General, and in January 2025 Santo Domingo was announced as host of the Fourth USIP World Police Games 2026 — carrying the Games to their fourth continent-spanning edition.
